Fall Fun in WNC

Fall is such a great time to get outdoors with the family- pick some apples, enjoy a corn maze, attend a festival.   Here’s a list of some places to visit to enjoy our colorful fall.  Do you know of others?  Share them with us by clicking here.  Check back, we will be adding more as we find out about them.

Eliada’s Annual Corn Maze

What:  WNC’s largest non-profit Corn Maze.  100% precedes benefits the children of Eliada.  In addition to the corn maze there are giant tube slides, a corn box, cow train, hayrides, corn cannons, spider web climb, Storybook trails, and of course pumpkins.
When:  September 16- October 31, Wednesday through Sunday
Time:  Wednesday and Thursday – 9am-3pm
            Friday – 9am-8pm
            Saturday – 10am-8pm
            Sunday – 10am-6pm
Where:  Eliada, 2 Compton Drive, Asheville
Cost:  Adult (age 12 and up)/$10; Children (age 4-11)/$7;  Season passes available.  New attraction for 2015 – Jumping Pillow -$3/15 minute turn

Hickory Nut Gap Farm

What:  A working farm that offers family fun including a corn maze, hay climb, rope swing, animal barn, plus the pumpkin patch.  Pumpkin patch opens in October.
When:  September and October
Time:  Monday through Saturday – 9am-6pm
             Sunday – 12-6pm
Where:  57 Sugar Hollow Road, Fairview
Cost: $7/person, ages 2 and under are free;  Additional charge for Kiddie Cart Rides, Hay Rides, and Horse Rides that are offered on Saturday and Sunday from 11am-4pm

Grandad’s Apples and Such (Henderson County)

What:  Visit Grandad’s for the dad and enjoy a variety of fun activities on a 70 acre family farm that include a Corn Maze, cow train, a Barnyard Corral with a variety of farmyard animals and a pumpkin patch.
When:  Open through November 2
Time:  Open 7 days a week; 9am-5pm

Stepp’s Hillcrest Orchard (Henderson County)

What:  Enjoy a variety of fun activities including a corn maze, nature train and an apple cannon.
When:  Orchard is open now
Time:  Monday through Thursday – 8am-5:30pm
            Friday and Saturday – 8am-6pm
            Sunday – 10am-6pm
Where:  170 Stepp Orchard Drive, Hendersonville

Woolly Worm Festival (Banner Elk)

What:  The 38th Annual Wooly Worm Festival – includes crafts, food, inflatable rides, dance teams and of course, woolly worm races.
When:  October 17 & 18, 2015
Time:  Saturday – 9am-5pm
            Sunday – 9am-4pm
Where:  Downtown Banner Elk
Cost:  $3/ages 6-12; $5/13 and up  (Tickets can be bought on line)

Halloween Fest (Transylvania County)

What:  33rd Annual Festival – includes Costume Contest and parade, Pumpkin Carving Contest, live music, street vendors and Pie Bake-off.
When:  October 31, 2015
Time:  10am (trick or treating downtown from 1-2pm)
Where:  Downtown Brevard

Folk School Fall Festival (Brasstown)

What:  Annual celebration of Appalachian culture – includes artisans demonstrate traditional and contemporary crafts, music, pony rides, petting alpacas and tasty foods
When:  October 3 & 4, 2015
Time:  10am-5pm
Where:  John C. Campbell Folk School
Cost:  $3/ages 12-17; $5/adults

Cherokee Indian Fair  (Cherokee)

What:  Carnival and agriculture show – includes food, music, rides demonstrations of all sorts of authentic culture.
When:  October 6-10, 2015
Time:  10am-10pm
Where:  Cherokee, NC
Cost:  $5/ages 6-12; $10/13 and above
