So summer’s over and the kids have gone back to school.  Seemed like it would last forever, then it was over in a heartbeat.  So now it’s time to get back into the schedule, the system, the routine.  Packing lunches, packing backpacks, putting the kids onto the bus or into the car to go to school. 

So – before it’s on top of you – maybe it’s a good idea to make plans for the days that school is out.  You know those teacher workdays and snow days that sneak up on you and then you’re scrambling to find child care?  Here’s the answer:  Let Asheville Parks & Recreation take care of it! 

Asheville Parks & Rec has Fun Day Out programs for Asheville City and Buncombe County Schools’ teacher workdays, holidays and even when school is out because of bad weather!  Great activities led by qualified professional staff, multiple locations, and really reasonable prices cover all the bases for what you’re looking for.   Here’s a schedule:

Fun Day Out (Teacher Workdays)

A day of games, crafts, activities and field trips.  Bring your own lunch and a drink.  Locations are Montford Recreation Center at 34 Pearson Drive and Stephens-Lee Recreation at 30 George Washington Carver.  Cost is only $5 per child per day plus any field trip fees.  And if your child is already enrolled in an Asheville Parks & Rec afterschool program, Fun Day Out is included!  The program runs from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Monday, 10/10 (City and County)
Tuesday, 11/8 (City and County)
Friday, 11/11 (City and County)
Wednesday, 11/23 (City and County)
Monday, 1/2 (City and County)

Snow Day Fun

Offered most days when school is out because of bad weather.  Info is posted on WLOS as part of the school closings info.  Youth should bring lunch and a drink.  City schools go to Montford Recreation Center (34 Pearson Drive) and County schools go to Shiloh Recreation Center (121 Shiloh Road).  Cost is only $5 per child per day! 

Holiday Camps

On December 21-23 and 27-30, holiday camps meet at Stephens-Lee and Montford Recreation Centers.  Let your child spend their holiday playing games, doing crafts, getting their exercise, and all kinds of holiday fun.  Cost is $50 per child for the whole week and City of Asheville residents receive a $10 discount.
