It's Time to Go Outside and Play!

By Asheville Parks and Rec March 24, 2015

Spring is upon us!  It’s time to shake off those cold-weather blues and get out of the house!  The City of Asheville Parks and Recreation Department has the perfect opportunity for your child to learn a new game, make new friends and get some fresh air.

One of the programs being offered is a new Spring Flag Football season.  This is a co-ed program for boys and girls ages 8 to 12, beginning in April and ending around the first of June.  Teams practice one a week and will have one game per week.  Your child can register as an individual OR gather some friends and register a whole team of ten.  Cost for the program is only $15 for an individual and residents of the City of Asheville receive a $5 discount.  Team registration for ten players is only $100.

Back by popular demand is the Track and Field program!  This is a 6-week introductory track and field program focusing on starts, acceleration, finishes, and pacing.  It’s designed for boys and girls 9 to 14 and will conclude with a local track and field meet for all the participants.  The 6-week program is only $40 and Asheville City residents receive a $5 discount.  This has been one of more popular programs and it’s sure to be a sellout.

Also new this year is a youth Golf program offered in conjunction with our friends at Asheville Municipal Golf Course.  Taught by a PGA pro, this is an introductory course that teaches the basics of driving, chipping, putting and etiquette.  The cost is $75 and includes everything you need to participate.

All of Asheville Parks and Recreation’s youth programs focus on fun, safety, participation by all players and sportsmanship.  The programs are age and skill-level appropriate and taught by experienced adults.

Registration is now open for all these programs, but it closes March 27 so you need to hurry to get in on the fun!  For more information or to register, contact Kim Turner at (828) 232-4526 or by email at kturner@ashevillenc.gov
