Looking ahead...Info for your rising Kindergartner

August and the start of another school year may seem like a long way off but it will be here before you know it.  Smart Start of Buncombe County has some resources that you may find helpful in preparing your child for kindergarten.

If you are interested in a Charter School in Buncombe County applications are being accepted now. 

1.       Artspace Charter School – Tours are offered, call 828-298-2782 for an appointment; applications are due March 2, 2015 by 4pm.

2.       Evergreen Community Charter School – Tours are offered, call 828-298-2173 for an appointment; applications are due March 31, 2015

3.       Francine Delany New School for Children – Tours are available on the first Thursday and third Tuesday of each month, call 828-236-9441 for an appointment; applications are due March 31, 2015

Here are the Kindergarten Registration dates for the various districts –

Buncombe County:

1.       Erwin – April 23, 2015; Emma

2.       Owen – April 24, 2015; Black Mountain and W.D. Williams

3.       Reynolds District – April 29, 2015; Bell, Fairview, Haw Creek and Oakley

4.       North Buncombe – May 1, 2015; Barnardsville, N. Buncombe and Weaverville

5.       Erwin – May 4, 2015; Leicester, Woodfin and West Buncombe

6.       Erwin – May 7, 2015; Johnston

7.       Enka – May 8, 2015; Candler, Hominy Valley, Pisgah, and Sand Hill

8.       Roberson – May 14, 2015; Avery’s Creek, Glen Arden and Estes

Make an appointment at the school where your child will attend.  Your child’s school will contact you with more info.  Here are the Kindergarten Registration dates for the City Schools –

1.       June 2, 2015 – Vance – School of Ecology

2.       June 2, 2015 – Isaac Dickson – School of Experiential Education

3.       June 2, 2015 – Hall Fletcher – School of Science, Math & Technologies

4.       June 3, 2015 – Ira B. Jones – School of Global Scholars

5.       June 3,2015 – Claxton – School of Arts & Humanities
