Featured Business of the Week: 3 Eggs Cakery Edible Artistry

Jackie Rowley Runs a Custom-Baking Business in Asheville

By Sandra Bilbray January 16, 2020

You might know Jackie Rowley from one of her cookie-decorating events that she leads around Asheville. Or, maybe you’ve ordered a Birthday or special event cake from her. Delicious! I met Jackie when she led a holiday cookie decorating event at Craft Centric Beer Taproom in South Asheville. I learned new tips and tricks (and terminology!) to decorate Christmas cookies like a pro. Jackie can lead private cookie or cupcake decorating parties and make the cake too! I sat down with Jackie to ask her a few questions about how she started Three Eggs Cakery her custom-order baking business here in Asheville.

Q: Tell me about how you started your business.

I graduated with a Fine Arts degree in 2007, got married, moved to Asheville, had three awesome kids and was searching for a way to create art again and be profitable at the same time. Baking has become my medium to make some delicious edible art. I am incredibly grateful to be able to use my baking and artistic talents for creating edible art for others to enjoy. This is what Three Eggs Cakery is all about.

Q: How did you come up with the name of your business?

The name itself comes from three of my biggest cheerleaders, my kids. I can chase this dream with the help of my amazing and supportive husband, along with my extremely talented family and friends.

Q: For those who don’t know, does your business have a physical location?

I do not have a storefront as my schedule as a proud Mother of "3 Eggs" doesn’t allow for it. I love creating custom orders. I have been in the wedding and catering industry for more than eight years, and creating custom desserts for almost five years and loving everything about it!

Q: What do your kids think of what you do? They must love it.

Honestly, I think my kids know me as an artist first. That being said, there are perks of being a baker's kiddo that I know they enjoy.  They love trying new recipes that I bring home and when their birthday comes around all three know that they can come up with very detailed requests and their mama will make it happen. When my youngest daughter Eva was turning four, she asked for a unicorn cake that was also a ladybug. Loved that one!

Q: What’s your favorite thing to bake?

I enjoy baking anything and everything!  I particularly enjoy working with ganache and sculpted cakes. The more creative and challenging the better!  I love making customers ideas for their special events come true in cake. Nothing better than seeing the joy on their faces when they see what we've created together.

Q: What’s your best baking tip for Moms and Dads?

Just have fun and don't take baking too seriously! You CAN create some yummy desserts if you follow the recipes. Even if it doesn't turn out as pretty as you expected you have one or more little taste testers that will be happy to try!

Jackie’s next Event is a Cookie Decorating Workshop at Wine & Design January 21 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. You can get tickets here!
