National Flag Football is a WIN for Our Family

By National Flag Football July 23, 2020

My husband and I both played a number of sports growing up, in and out of school. The memories, the lessons we learned, the friendships we made - it’s all played a huge part in shaping us into the people we are today. As our kids get older, we want them to have the opportunity to create memories and experiences of their own. But I’m scared. I’m terrified they’ll get hurt and with two boys and a girl, I’d feel much more comfortable with them all on the same team. So, for me, it’s a no-brainer.

National Flag Football offers the incredible opportunity to learn and play football from the ground up without being exposed to the danger of tackling, heavy equipment, or worry of contact. Players learn rules, technique, teamwork, discipline, and anything else they need to grow in the world of football. In addition to learning, there are a number of ways children benefit from joining a team:

Sports boost self-esteem: Children learn to be confident on the field. Seeing their hard work pay off has a positive impact on their self-esteem. When kids achieve their goals on the field it teaches them they can achieve other goals set in life.

Playing sports helps develop teamwork and leadership skills: Working as a team to reach a common goal helps children develop communication and problem solving skills that will benefit them on the field and off.

It’s a natural stress reliever: Exercise is a great way for kids to loosen up and let go. What makes NFF really great is that there are no tryouts or drafts. While this comes later in the life of an athlete, it’s good as they start out. Sports also help kids develop tight bonds with their teammates which will provide them with a support system.

Kids develop lifelong healthy lifestyle habits: Regular physical activity improves a child’s fitness and helps them to stay in shape. NFF practices are held the same day as games with just a two-hour commitment on that day. This is great for families with busy schedules and for kids who want to run drills at home in-between game days.

Life skills: Flag football also teaches leadership and accountability.  Winning and losing lets kids experience success and adversity on a small scale and forces them to respond to it.

And my favorite one - It’s fun!
