Review:
Carrier Park is one of Asheville's largest parks and offers plenty to do for the whole family.
After parking, you can choose to either take the stairs or the wheelchair/stroller friendly ramp to head over the bridge and towards the playground. Please note that the public bathroom facilities are located outside of the velodrome.
Looking down from the bridge, you can see one parking lot as well as the ball field in the distance.
This sign for the velodrome shows the various lanes designated for where folks can walk, run, rollerblade, scooter, ride a bike, etc. On the weekends, this park is very busy with active families.
There are beach volleyball courts.
Across the way is a basketball court with plenty of benches to sit and watch.
One of the more unique features to this particular park is the outdoor roller hockey rink with bleacher seating.
The playground features wooden vehicles including an airplane and a fire truck. There's a pretend steering wheel that turns and the fire truck has monkey bars inside it which is pretty fun.
The wooden castle structure is divided into two sections. One side is labeled as "tot lot" which has slides of shorter length along with infant swings. The other side is naturally geared towards older kids with bigger slides and swings.
While the castle design is what makes this playground so fun, it is worth mentioning that the wooden structure design makes visibility much more limited than say a more open concept park.
It warmed my heart to see this inclusive park communication board.
If you park on the other end of Carrier Park, you'll walk past the lawn bowling green. Asheville is fortunate to have one as apparently there are only two in the entire state!
This picnic pavilion is not particularly close to the playgrounds but offers some peace and tranquility. It overlooks the French Broad River and would be a great spot for a picnic lunch in warmer weather.
