My husband and I had the opportunity to sneak away one night last week (thank you grandparents for babysitting) and try something new. We found it to be the perfect break from the norm and are already looking forward to going back.

When you walk through the doors, you are greeted with an inviting space that takes on a cozy cabin feel. The atmosphere draws you in, and every employee we interacted with made us feel like they were genuinely glad we were there.

You check in and sign your waiver. I will admit I had some anxiety initially reading through the form; however, cutting onions or driving your car involves risk as well. Exercise common sense and pay attention during the safety lesson. There is fencing around every throwing lane, and I felt safe the entire time there. The ratio of staff to customers seemed excellent.
You can order beer, wine, or cider from a decent sized menu of mostly local beverage choices. There are some snacks available for purchase as well.

When you first get to your assigned lane, you will meet with a coach who gives you a safety lesson and throwing pointers. I'd like to give a special shout out to Patrick for being so incredibly patient.
While Mike (my husband) naturally hit the bulls-eye on his very first throw, my axe didn't even stick in the wood. I continued to try and continued to fail. It was a tad embarrassing; however, Patrick was encouraging and gave excellent advice.

For a while, I was happy to just get it to stick in the wood, anywhere on the board. Eventually, I started to get the hang of it and found my rhythm. It is an adrenaline rush for sure, and trying something new is a bonding experience.

As our night was wrapping up, I was so stoked to finally hit a bulls-eye! For a minute, I didn't even want to retrieve my axe. I wanted to leave it in but settled for a picture to document the moment!
We had an AXE-cellent date night at Axeville and definitely plan to return!
