"Her Royal Fiveness" Party at Sunny Day Indoor Play Space

By Kaitlin O'Steen, Publisher Macaroni KID Asheville April 5, 2023

We recently celebrated our daughter's fifth birthday with a princess themed party at Sunny Day Play Space. From start to finish, the experience was excellent, and I would highly recommend booking your party here.

The weather forecast was showing a 70% chance of rain and after some morning showers, it turned into a pretty day; however, it was so nice to have the peace of mind of not having to worry about the weather since I knew we'd be inside.

We arrived about 30 minutes before party time to set up decorations, snacks, and the beautiful castle cake (thank you Amy's Bakery!). We were greeted with helping hands to put things out/hang things up, etc.

About a week before your party, Sunny Day will reach out to get a head count from you to help determine how many chairs and tables are needed. It was set up perfectly with larger chairs for the grown-ups and smaller tables and seating for the younger crowd.

Then it was time to play and wait for the others to arrive. There is a gated infant area perfect for keeping younger siblings, cousins, or friends contained with lots of Montessori inspired activities. I personally love the neutral play mat.

The highlight of this play space is their CedarWorks castle which just so happened to coordinate perfectly with our theme. There are two slides that provided quite a bit of entertainment along with squeals of excitement.

My husband got in on some of the fun exploring the crawling tunnels underneath the castle.

It was time to blow out candles and cut the cake. I panicked realizing I hadn't packed a lighter, but thankfully Sunny Day was happy to provide one, so no one had to run home.

Playing was halted for a quick cake and juice break. This picture shows some more of the fun playing options including a grocery store complete with various pretend food items, a moving conveyer belt, and it even beeps when you ring up the items. The birthday girl's 9 year old cousin enjoyed being the cashier.

After cake, it was time to open presents. One of her favorite gifts received was a Rapunzel dress and corresponding wig. Gretchen, one of the Sunny Day employees, immediately changed the music playing to the Tangled soundtrack, and I thought that was such a sweet gesture.

The party was drawing to an end at this point, so the kids rushed off to play a little bit more while the adults gathered up their items. From the parent perspective, it felt like the perfect amount of time, although the kids would've voted to keep playing!

Naturally, we started to clean up the mess of toys but refreshingly were told not to worry about it, they would handle it.

To add to the sweet memories from this happy day, Sunny Day gives each birthday kid a t-shirt which is a great souvenir.
