I was thrilled to see the Asheville Community Theatre would be performing Bright Star and was eager to attend opening night. My husband and I had taken an anniversary trip to New York City where we saw it on Broadway for the first time, and I fell in love with the story and soundtrack. The bluegrass music reminded us of home and we'd picked the play not knowing much except that it was set in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Much to our surprise, we discovered one of the songs was titled "Asheville!"
Thanks to the amazing Zoom pass, I was able to attend opening night along with my Mom for FREE. If you have a Buncombe County Library card, you simply visit their website to request which area attraction you'd like to visit and which day. Once reserved, head to your nearest branch with photo ID and pick up your pass. You are able to visit each area attraction one time per month for free. This show didn't disappoint. I cried. I laughed. I found myself tapping my toes to the music. I wasn't alone as the show ended with a standing ovation from the crowd.
What is it about you might ask? I don't want to spoil too much, but I'll say this. It follows two different love stories with a unique connection. Given the content, I feel this play is best geared for teens and adults. Whether you make it a date night with your spouse, a night out with the girls, or an early Mother's Day gift, you'll want to see this one.
