Since the moment I found out I was expecting a daughter, I have so looked forward to all the "girly" things we could do together like painting our nails, shopping, tea parties, and spa dates. When I stumbled across Recline & Unwind Social Spa, or RU Social Spa for short, two things really stood out to me. The first being that unlike many spas, they're actually kid friendly with a special menu dedicated just for children. Second, I was pleasantly surprised at their reasonable pricing.
Located just around the corner from the iconic French Broad Chocolate Lounge, it's a fantastic spot. You choose from their menu what appeals to you. All services are 15 minutes in length for $30. Considering massages can easily cost hundreds of dollars per session, this makes self-care much more affordable and is ideal for those on a time crunch. Walk-ins are welcome too which is so nice.
My daughter was one lucky girl as she got to test out all 4 services on the kids menu. Kids up to age 11 can choose up to two services during each 15 minute block. She selected a yellow bath bomb and started with the "Fizzing Foot Soak" which came as no surprise that it ended up being her favorite. Heidi and Kelly, the owners, were so welcoming, and you could tell they are Moms themselves by how they both interacted with her. They got down on her level and were incredibly patient with her not wanting the soak to end.
I had never sat in a zero gravity chair before, and oh my, even just sitting in the heated chair alone was a treat. You can read more online about the health benefits of zero gravity chairs, but the short answer is it just greatly adds to the stress reduction and relaxation experience. I started with the "Triple Crown" which is a massage focusing on your scalp, neck, and shoulders. It was incredible and long overdue. When I say incredible, I mean I came home and told my husband if you ever are unsure what to get me for my birthday, Valentine's Day, Christmas, pretty much any day, please get me a gift certificate to Recline & Unwind Social Spa.
Next, Genevieve had the "Nothin' But Noggin" (scalp massage) and "Say Aloe" (gemstone face massage with an aloe face mask). Are you catching these names? They're so stinking clever!
Another nice aspect is you don't have to get undressed. You can simply stay in what you're wearing. During my massage, I was in absolute bliss; it felt like everything melted away. I wasn't thinking about if I remembered to switch the clothes over from the washing machine or what I was going to fix that night for dinner. In fact, I don't think I was thinking of anything at all except complete relaxation and an occasional glance over at my daughter. I was grateful she was getting to share in this experience with me.
She ended her visit with "Happy Hands" (a hand and arm massage) while I enjoyed "Treat Your Feet" (a foot massage) that was outstanding. I am looking forward to when I can go back again.
Recline & Unwind Social Spa is a wonderful self-care experience for folks of all ages, and they also offer spa parties! Whether you're hosting a baby shower, a get together for friends, or perhaps your child's next birthday party, keep Recline & Unwind in mind!
