Paddle Boating on Lake Julian

Enjoy some fun in the sun...for FREE!

By Kaitlin O'Steen, Publisher Macaroni KID Asheville June 9, 2023

Thanks to the amazing Zoom pass, my family and I were able to enjoy a 30 minute paddleboat ride for FREE. If you have a Buncombe County Library card, you simply visit their website to request which area attraction you'd like to visit and which day. Once reserved, head to your nearest branch with photo ID and pick up your pass. You are able to visit each area attraction one time per month for free. For more details about this program, check out our guide here

They provide life jackets in the following sizes: child, youth, and adult. Children 13 and under must wear a life jacket while on the paddleboat.

Paddling away from the shore, here's the view of the rental office and paddle boats.

Wanting to capture the moment, I said "smile," and both kids stuck their tongues out ha! They're a silly bunch!

Our daughter carefully made her way to the front of the boat. Although her legs weren't quite long enough to help pedal, she quickly took over as captain pointing out which direction she thought we should head next.

Meanwhile, I enjoyed some sweet hand holding and bird watching with my son.

He especially enjoyed this up close sighting of some ducks.

Finally, it was time to head back.

You could even make a longer day of it by playing at Lake Julian playground. You can read our review and see pictures of this pirate ship playground by clicking here
