Have you ever heard of Ultimate Frisbee? It is an invasion sport, think soccer, field hockey, basketball, but played with a flying disc!
Youth aged players play 5 verse 5 and high school and above play 7 vs 7. The field dimensions are about the size of a soccer field (110 yards by 40 yards) and is set up like a football field where each team is defending an end zone and conversely trying to score in the opponents end zone.
The great aspect of ultimate frisbee is that it is governed by The Spirit of the Game. Spirit of the Game places the responsibility of fair play solely on the athletes themselves by requiring each player to know the rules and make their own calls, without the help of a neutral official. These underlying principles reinforce mutual respect and trust between opponents; communication and conflict resolution skills; and self confidence.
Most sports have refs or umps and many players "try to get away with" or "bend the rules." In ultimate each player is intrinsically involved in keeping the game fair and competitive. Wow, a sport that provides exercise, teamwork and teaches soft skills and SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) skills! Sign my daughter up!
Ultimate Frisbee Summer Camp is celebrating it's Aluminum Anniversary (10 years) in 2025. Youth Camp is for rising 2nd-8th grade athletes with various weeks tailored towards novice and intermediate players. High School aged athletes can serve as Coaches in Training and earn up to 20 service hours that can be used towards their high school graduation requirements, or applied to their own week of High School Summer Camp! Half and full day camp options are available to cater to your individual summer plans. The price is just right for me! I cannot find more cost effective camp in town!

Can't wait till summer to get involved with Ultimate? Asheville Ultimate runs a school based Spring youth league for middle school and high school. Fern Leaf, Asheville Middle School, French Broad River Academy, Evergreen, and Francine Delany are some of the middle school's that have teams. Asheville High, AC Reynolds, Asheville Home School, North Buncombe, Fern Leaf, Franklin School of Innovation, and Brevard High School have high school teams. Asheville High has even competed in tournaments across the south in Charlotte, Raleigh and Atlanta.
