Welcome to Asheville Macaroni Kid
Celebrate: to rejoice in or to have special festivities to mark a day or an event.
I am all for celebrating! Whatever and Whenever! And what kid doesn’t like to celebrate? So one of the goals I have set for this year as part of Asheville Macaroni Kid newsletter is to bring you days to celebrate. Each week I will include at least one craft or a recipe that will help you find ways to enjoy a “Celebration Day” with your family.
Last week I mentioned that this past Tuesday was National Peanut Butter Day (I did enjoy that Peanut Butter Toast) and tomorrow is National Chocolate Cake Day. I had mentioned a cake last week that uses Coke or Diet Coke in it but I thought maybe that would not be the best one to use for kids so check out the Chocolate Pumpkin Cake recipe. It's got pumpkin in it so it must be good for you!
This week Macaroni Kid brings you...Jan. 27...National Chocolate Cake Day, Jan. 29th...National Puzzle Day and Feb. 2...Groundhog Day. Enjoy the festivites! Have fun! Celebrate!
Don’t forget to check out the “Every Week Fun” article for links to library times and places to visit that always have something going for your kids. The article follows the event listings.

Celebrate...Chocolate Cake Day
January 26
According to holidayinsites.com perhaps a baker or a food company started this celebration day but most likely it was a “chocolate cake…eater”! But who cares! Any excuse to eat chocolate. So if you feel in the mood to bake a chocolate cake here is a easy recipe. Mmmm…enjoy!
Chocolate Pumpkin Cake
1 chocolate cake mix
1 can pumpkin (15 oz)
2 egg whites
2 Tablespoons water
½ cup mini chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 375º and grease pan well.
In a small bowl, whisk egg whites until white ...
Celebrate...National Puzzle Day
January 29
For the last several years one of the local churches has been putting puzzles the last week of January but I just found out this week that the reason could be that Jan. 29th is National Puzzle Day. Another fun day to celebrate! There is something about the interaction of putting a puzzle together with your child, no matter what age, that makes it a good time for conversation. That’s always a good thing.
Here are just a few other ways to have fun with National Puzzle Day ...
Celebrate...Groundhog Day
Febuary 2
Next Thursday we will be looking for Punxsutawney Phil! Will it soon be spring? Or will we have six more weeks of bad weather? The belief is that on February 2nd the groundhog or woodchuck comes out of his hole to look for his shadow. If it is a sunny day then he sees his shadow and goes back into his hole because there will be six more weeks of winter weather. But if there is no shadow because it is a cloudy day then spring will be here ...

KIDS EAT FREE!! (or very cheap) **ONGOING**
Below you will find a list of area restaurants where kids either eat free or for very cheap!
While the majority of the listings are places where kids eat free some of the restaurants charge a small amount – so they are not actually “free” but a very good deal nonetheless.
You will also find that some of the restaurants where kids eat free have certain restrictions. I can’t stress enough to please call the restaurant location you plan on attending to get your free kids meal before you pack ...
