There are thousands of cascades surrounding Asheville. Some require hiking and others you can enjoy from the road. Here are just a few to get you started.
1. Linville Falls – Easy hike (off the Blue Ridge Pky at mile post 316.4)
2. Crabtree Falls – 3 mile hike (off the Blue Ridge Pky. At mile post 339.5)
3. Looking Glass Falls – No hiking needed to see this waterfall (off US 276)
4. Moore Cove Falls – Located right by Looking Glass (1 mile); located at stone Bridge off US 276)
5. Cove Creek Falls – Only a short hike from the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education.
6. Sliding Rock – A waterfall to slip down and end up in the water. (Off US 276 just past Cove Creek Falls.
7. Dry Falls – Walk right underneath this 80ft fall (off US 64/28W in Highlands)
8. Upper Whitewater Falls – Highest waterfall east of the Rockies. ¼ mile hike from the walkway to the paved overlook. Upper portion falls in NC and the lower portion falls in SC.
9. DuPont State Recreational Forest - Four major waterfalls - well marked and maintained.
