Set your sights on a swashbuckling musical adaptation of HOW I BECAME A PIRATE, from the beloved children's book by Melinda Long with illustrations by David Shannon, sailing into Magnetic 375 in the River Arts District from August 4-14. A perfect excursion for aaargh-diences of all ages, this "funny, sweet-tempered" (according to the Washington Post) show is produced by Asheville's professional children's theatre, Asheville Creative Arts (ACA), the company behind other favorites, CHARLOTTE'S WEB and MISS NELSON IS MISSING!

Janet Yates Vogt and Mark Friedman are credited with the book, music and lyrics for this story in which a band of comical pirates land on the "beach" looking for an extra digger to join their crew. Braid Beard, their fearless leader, played by local favorite, Rock Eblen, and his pirate mates played by Tiffany Renee Bear, Tristan Cameron, and Kelsey Sewell, enlist young Jeremy Jacob, played by Reed Atherton, to help them find the perfect spot to bury their treasure, and hilarity ensues.

“We are delighted this musical presents our first opportunity to work with a young actor, 11 year-old Reed Atherton, who will portray Jeremy Jacob, and rounds out our cast of professional adult actors” says Robbie Jaeger, who is directing and choreographing the show. Producer Abby Felder notes that “including Reed goes to the heart of the theme of play, and ACA’s mission, in which a young person’s imagination presents a portal to a world where anything is possible.”
