Create Your Own Cupcake Crayons!

By Lori Barrow, Publisher Mom December 29, 2011
Have you ever been going through your kids art supplies only to find about a hundred broken crayons? Instead of throwing them away, keep them and make your own cupcake crayons! My daughter and I love to do arts and crafts together and she is always asking me to make something for her, so when I ran across these two websites, they were the perfect blend of creativity, recycling, ease and fun!
The directions are basically the same from both websites, Confetti Crayons and Crayon Nibbles ), however, your oven may differ, adjust accordingly.

I made mine like this:

*Preheat oven to 325 degrees
*Cut crayons into 1 inch pieces and group together however you like
*I used paper liners in my cupcake pan and placed crayons in liners
*Bake for 8-10 minutes
*CAREFULLY place hot cupcake pan into freezer for 45 minutes to an hour (Be especially careful if you have a bottom mount freezer!)

*After crayons are firm, they should easily come out of the cupcake liners.

All in all, it was a great experiment that we intend to try again soon. We're going to stock up on vibrant crayons to see what wacky colors we come up with! Also, if you have a pretty basket, they make very cute pictures!
