The well-known American songwriting duo of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein created a string of popular Broadway musicals in the 1940s and 1950s. With Rodgers composing the music and Hammerstein writing the lyrics, five of their shows - Oklahoma, Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I and The Sound of Music - were outstanding successes immediately upon opening on Broadway. In all, among the many accolades that their shows (and their film versions) garnered were thirty-four Tony Awards, fifteen Academy Awards, the Pulitzer Prize, and two Grammys. Many of their songs have been widely recorded and were hits outside of their parent musicals.
The music of Rodgers and Hammerstein will come to life in My Favorite Things: The Music of Rodgers and Hammerstein, onstage March 28 through April 22. Evening performances are Wednesday through Saturday at 8:00 and matinee performances are most Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00. Tickets to My Favorite Things are $40 with discounts available for seniors, AAA members, military personnel, students and groups.
